(Tampa) Baywatch

The Tampa Bay Lightning had a rare offensive explosion against  the New York Islanders at the St. Pete Times Forum in Tampa Bay . The final score ended up at an incredible eight to four . It was truly a rare occasion for the Lightning . They broke a five game losing streak and it was only their second win in twelve games . Our Stars (ex)players figured in to half of the goals scored . Lecavalier scored a hat trick after only scoring one goal in more than seven games . Three of the Lightning’s goals came in a shocking forty-two seconds . This game was truly a rarity because the Lightning dominated the game-play . They out shot the Islanders in every period for a total of forty-four to twenty-four .
Jeff Halpern had a three point night . He tallied the Lightning’s third goal of the night and collected two assists . He won seventy percent of his face-offs and had over twenty minutes of ice time . He finished out the game with a +/- ranking of +2 . He only had one shot on goal , but it hit the back of the net . Not a bad shooting percentage . He took a holding penalty on which the Islanders scored in six seconds . He was also named as the game’s second star . He has been named as one of the stars of the game for the Lightning twice and the other time he was the game’s first star in his first game in a Lightning uniform .
Jussi Jokinen had almost eighteen and a half minutes of ice time and had three shots on goal . He took a tripping penalty in the first , but the penalty kill did their job and did not allow the Islanders to capitalize on the chance . He posted his only assist on Lecavalier’s hat trick goal .
Mike Smith did not start for the Lightning . They decided to give him the night off . He will probably start the next game on Thursday . Especially since it seemed like Kari Ramo (who started) was never even in net . Ramo was almost never mentioned in the broadcast at all except for when they said he had allowed another goal .
I like to see our (ex)Stars players doing well . It was a shame that Smitty did not start though . I am sure he would have seen far more of those pucks that seemed to elude Ramo .

  1. WOOO!!! Go Stars–I mean Lightning!!! Thank God they finally won one! Go Halpie!!! Wish Smitty had had the start too. I’m a little worried about him. The Tampa media has started to have a bit of negative edge toward him after the last couple of games. Hope it’s not a trend. Hope their offense finally waking up is! Now if they could only get some defense to help their goalies.

  2. I still miss them, but I’m glad to see that they did well last night. Jeffy seems to be tearing up the ice for Tampa from all that I’ve seen.

I hope Smitty will get the next start, but it seems like the Lightning play better in from of Ramo.

  3. Sadly , I think you are right about them playing better in front of Ramo . I guess it might have something to do with the fact that Smitty is still wearing his Stars goalie mask . Either way , Smitty is the best goalie they have ever had .
I love the fact that Halpren is tearing stuff up down there . I hope he continues to show Hull and Jackson what they screwed up on .
