(Tampa) Baywatch

This is an on-going series that I have chosen to write about since the Dallas Stars’ “blockbuster” trade  involving Brad Richards , Johan Holmqvist , Jeff Halpern , Jussi Jokinen , Mike Smith (Smitty) and a fourth round draft pick . This series may go on forever , who Knows ?

Despite dropping a two-one loss to the Penguins on Tuesday , the game was not as bad as the score makes it look . One of those two goals was an empty-netter . It was a close game and it was well played by both sides . I really enjoyed the game . There were only two things about the game that I did not like . One was that Martin St.Louis tried to get cute with his shots at Fluery and he failed miserably every time . Just shoot the puck , do not try to show off ! Hockey is a team sport , not your own private stage on which you show off on ! Go to the All-Star Game for that garbage ! The other was that the Pens beat Smitty . I hate to see Smitty lose .
Smitty faced twenty-two shots and made spectacular saves repeatedly . He allowed only one by and that cost the game . He did still earn the second star of the game . He is really doing well for Tampa despite the fact that he has what resembles swiss cheese for defensemen .
Jussi Jokinen had over twenty-one minutes of ice time and had six shots on goal .
For the first time since he has been in Tampa , Jeff Halpern was held without a point . He did , however , have over twenty-two minutes of ice time . He had four shots on goal and only won thirty-one percent of his faceoffs .
